- Pericarditis
- SYMPTOMS. There may be sharp or dull pain under the breastbone of the chest,
- weakness, fever and chills. There may also be nonproductive coughing and
- quick, shallow breathing.
- CAUSES. The sac enclosing the heart becomes inflamed. This may be caused by
- uremia, tumor or rheumatic or other heart disease. It may also follow a bone
- or other infection or pneumonia.
- TREATMENT. Antibiotics and other medication may be prescribed.
- .Fluid may have to be drawn from the sac.
